Alibaba Alternative: Other Ways to Find Suppliers

Neutral options, with what each one says about itself. Check any supplier you find with the same free checker.

An Alibaba alternative is any other place to find Chinese suppliers: another B2B marketplace, a trade fair, a wholesale market, a sourcing agent or a referral. Options include Made-in-China.com, Global Sources, 1688.com, DHgate and the Canton Fair, and they differ in who sells there, how payment is protected and which language they use. This guide compares them using each site’s own published facts and the dates we read them. The Supplier legitimacy checker on this page helps you check any supplier you find. It runs in your browser, is free, needs no sign-up and uploads nothing, and no website is queried. It lists signals from what you enter. It is not an audit, a guarantee or a verdict on any company.

How to use the Supplier legitimacy checker

Answer what you can about the supplier; skip any question you cannot answer.

  1. Choose where you found the supplier, for example Alibaba.com, Made-in-China.com or a trade fair.
  2. Select the verification status shown on the supplier’s profile.
  3. Say whether Trade Assurance is offered.
  4. Record what the supplier claims to be: a manufacturer, a trading company or both.
  5. Rate how wide the product range is.
  6. Say whether a third-party audit report was provided, and what it says.
  7. Tell the tool where the supplier asks you to pay and how much you must pay before shipping.
  8. Mark whether the supplier refused any of these: a live video of the production floor, a factory audit, the business licence or a sample.
  9. Mark whether the price is far below other quotes you have received.
  10. Optional: enter the 18-character unified social credit code, which the tool checks and decodes.
  11. Optional: paste the business scope in Chinese. The tool highlights manufacturing words (生产, 制造, 加工) and trade words (批发, 销售, 进出口) with English meanings.
  12. Read the results, which update as you answer. You will see risk signals marked High, Medium, Reassuring or Note, each with a short reason and source links. You will also see a “Looks like a manufacturer / Looks like a trading company / Unclear” card with the evidence behind it, and a list of next checks.

The Print checklist button prints a one-page check sheet.

What are the alternatives to Alibaba?

The main alternatives are other B2B marketplaces, trade fairs, wholesale markets, sourcing agents, referrals from other buyers and suppliers’ own websites. No option is better than the others in general, so compare them on verification, payment protection, language and who you end up talking to.

Alibaba.com uses badges Gold Supplier, Verified Supplier and Trade Assurance Supplier, each defined on Alibaba’s buyer page. Trade Assurance holds funds in escrow when you pay on Alibaba.com. You can search by keyword, send a Request for Quotation so sellers bid, or filter for Trade Assurance suppliers.

Made-in-China.com produces Audited Supplier reports through SGS. They cover business licences, certifications, and production and quality control systems, and show whether a supplier is a manufacturer, a trading company or both.

Global Sources lists Verified Suppliers whose registration details were checked by outside firms such as Dun & Bradstreet and TUV SUD. Its Verified Manufacturers tier covers suppliers whose government-issued business licence includes manufacturing. An onsite Supplier Capability Assessment is an optional paid service. We read these details through search results that quote its pages, because its own pages returned 403 and 429 errors when we opened them directly on 2026-10-17.

DHgate is used by some buyers. Its pages could not be opened from our tools on 2026-10-17, so we make no claims about it here. Read its buyer protection terms yourself before you pay.

The Canton Fair (China Import and Export Fair) is held in Guangzhou. Travel and buyer-service sites list the autumn 2026 session as the 140th, in three phases from 15 October to 4 November 2026. We could not read the official site, so confirm dates and registration there.

Can I buy from 1688 as a foreign buyer?

Usually not directly, because 1688 is built for Chinese buyers. Alibaba Group lists 1688.com among its platforms, but WorldFirst, a payment provider, describes it as launched in 1999 for domestic Chinese manufacturers and wholesalers selling to local business buyers.

According to WorldFirst (its description, not Alibaba’s), the site was not built for overseas buyers, supports only Mandarin and lists prices in CNY. Most 1688 suppliers expect Alipay linked to a Chinese bank account, which most international buyers do not have. Foreign buyers therefore usually work through an intermediary. Before you use one, ask who the supplier is, how your payment is handled and whether you can reach the factory.

Frequently asked questions

Is Made-in-China.com better than Alibaba?

Neither is better in general. They differ in what their verification covers and in who you end up talking to, so compare them on those points. Made-in-China.com’s SGS-produced Audited Supplier reports are one thing to look for on any profile.

Do I need a platform at all?

No. Buyers also find suppliers through trade fairs, wholesale markets, sourcing agents, referrals and suppliers’ own websites. A platform gives you a listing and sometimes payment protection, but it does not confirm that a company is legitimate.

What should I ask any site before I buy?

Ask who verifies suppliers and exactly what is checked. Ask whether you can read the verification report, how you pay and what protects that payment. Also ask whether you can reach the factory or only a trader, what language and currency the site uses, and what it says about disputes.

Is a trading company a bad supplier?

No. A trading company is a normal kind of business. The checker shows a “Looks like a trading company” card when the evidence points that way, so you can decide what you need from the seller.

Does the checker confirm that a supplier is legitimate?

No. It shows a list of signals from what you enter. It is not an audit, a guarantee or a verdict on any company, so use the next checks it lists before you pay.
